DCRG supports Dorset school program

To the Editor:

The Dorset School and Dorset Parent Volunteers (DPV) would like to thank the Dorset Citizens for Responsible Growth for their generous donation to the Four Winds Nature Program for the 2015-16 school year. The Dorset Citizens for Responsible Growth (DCRG) is a non-profit 501c3 corporation dedicated to environmental education and conservation of natural resources in Dorset. Many thanks to the board of DCRG and to the members for their time and dedication to this organization and the many programs they support which promote good environmental stewardship in our community.

This grant will enable the Dorset School to continue this valuable extracurricular program which is sponsored by the Four Winds Nature Institute of Vermont and depends on volunteer and parent teachers. The volunteers attend a monthly workshop at the school led by a Four Winds staff member and then pass on what they have learned to children in the classrooms. The program is available to Kindergarten to 4th Grade students. Volunteers are always needed.... you do not have to be the parent of a child at the school, just an appreciation of nature and a willingness to spend a couple of hours a month attending the workshops and teaching the program in the classroom.

Four Winds Nature Institute is a non-profit organization advancing the understanding, appreciation and protection of the environment through community-based natural science education and research. Four Winds staff members are educators and scientists dedicated to helping children and adults gain the knowledge and science skills needed to understand the world around them and to create problem-solving and citizenship skills needed to protect it. Our programs encourage folks to learn about and explore nearby nature, connecting people to the natural world right in their own community. To learn more about Four Winds or to volunteer, please contact Ray Phelps, the Four Winds Coordinator for Dorset School at 342-3992 or at rayphelps85@yahoo.com
