Conservation commission reactivated
To the Editor:
After a long dormancy, the Manchester Conservation Commission has been reactivated under the guidance of Janet Hurley, Manchester's Planner and Zoning Administrator. The role of the Commission is to advise the Selectboard, Planning Commission and the Development Review Board on issues concerning municipal natural resources, energy conservation, open lands and long-term environmental projects. The Conservation Commission also owns deed restrictions on Adams Park and the Factory Point Town Green.
The Manchester Conservation Commission is currently working on how to best advise the Planning Commission as it begins the 5-year update of the Manchester Town Plan. We are requesting input from Manchester residents on what the key natural resource features are within our town boundaries. Currently listed in the Town Plan are: Mount Equinox, Skinner's Hollow Cave and Cook Hollow, Downer Glen/Prospect Rock, Deposit of Marble Breccia, Bullhead Pond and Bog and the Batten Kill Watershed. Other unique natural features listed in the Plan are: Equinox Pond, The Long Trail, Lye, Bourne, Bromley, Tanner, Munson and Stony Brooks, Table Rock, Punch Bowl, Boswell Botany Trail, Beartown Notch Road, Pew Forest, Isham Forest and Pickerel Pond. We want to know whether Manchester residents wish to identify other important natural resource features worthy of mention or protection in the Town Plan.
To reply, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or write to the Conservation Commission, c/o Alan Benoit, 6039 Main Street, Manchester Center, VT 05255
Thank you kindly for your input,
Your Conservation Commission: Alan Benoit, Chairman, Catherine Stewart, Vice Chairwoman, Lauren Keyes, Commission Member, Michael Cooperman, Commission Member.
