Comedy night comes to Dorset

DORSET - Have you heard the one about the comedian turned legislator, who opened for Joan Rivers? Well he's coming to the Dorset Playhouse on Friday, Feb. 1 at 8 p.m.

Jason Lorber headlines the show, less than a year after Joan Rivers selected him to open for her at the main stage of the Flynn in Burlington. Lorber is known statewide not just for his comedic skills, but also for having served in the Vermont House of Representatives for 8 years, from 2005 to 2012. His comedy reflects that, politics being one of his staples of comedy.

"I ran for office because I wanted to spend less time with my family," said Lorber. "Now, I need other excuses. That's partly why I'm coming to Dorset."

Lorber has performed comedy nationally, including at French Toast in Los Angeles, Punchline in Atlanta, and for family members of the Vermont National Guard. He also performs regularly at scores of venues in Vermont including the Flynn Main Stage, Middlebury College, the Chandler, Smuggler's Notch, Higher Ground, at Green Mountain Comedy Festival (headliner), as well as at numerous charity fund-raisers.

Joining Lorber on stage are two other all-star comedians Carmen Lagala and Mike Thomas who along with Lorber have been winning consistent top showings in comedy contests.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased in advance by calling the Dorset Players business office at 802-867-5570. There will be a wine reception at 7:30pm in the Playhouse café before showtime. Visit for more information about comedy night and other upcoming events.
