Civil War discussion planned

MANCHESTER -- The Bennington Museum, The Dorset Theatre Festival and Northshire Bookstore have combined forces to honor the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War by creating the Civil War in Vermont Series which will begin in May and run through October.

The series will kick off on May 23rd at 6 pm with a talk and discussion at Northshire Bookstore called The Meaning of Freedom. Seth Bongartz, Hildene Executive Director, will discuss Lincoln's relationship with slaves & their pending freedom. Vermont Humanities historian Lars Nielsen will talk about the Jews during the Civil War. Dina Janis, Artistic Director of the Dorset Theatre Festival, will moderate the Q & A that will follow. The Dorset Theatre Festival production of the renowned Civil War drama, The Whipping Man, acts as the springboard for this discussion.
