Checks, balances

To the Editor:

The opinion by Mr. Boothby (Manchester Journal, Jan. 11, 2013) dwells on the Legislative Branch - House reluctance to abandon constituents wishes, the Senate's unwillingness to submit a budget for four years.

However the country has had divided governments before. Many times.

A leader reaches out and crafts compromises. Sadly the Executive has not done this for four years and appears to be extending the "campaign mode" for another four. Where is the "reach across the aisle" promise? Just rhetoric? It is unfortunate that ideology, not bipartisanship, appears to be administration policy.

The system is working just as the Federalists envisioned. Justice for the 49 percent as well as the 51.
