Celebrate National Poetry Month at the library

MANCHESTER CENTER >> April is National Poetry Month and Manchester Community Library invites you to take part in the Library's celebration.

From now until April 14, be part of the Community Poem Project. Join local poets, as well as your neighbors and friends, in the creation of an online Community Poem. All are welcome, so add a line to the virtual poem at http://mclpoemproject.blogspot.com. It will be read aloud at the April 15 poetry salon.

On Tuesday, April 5 at 7 p.m., attend "A Celebration of Poetry with Major Jackson" at MCL. UVM professor Major Jackson will be discussing his newest collection, "Roll Deep," and speaking about the importance of poetry as it defines us as humans and serves as a record of our existence. Major Jackson's books will be available for purchase through Northshire Bookstore at this event, to be signed by the poet.

Attend the poetry salon on Friday, April 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the library. Local poets are invited to share their work and the Community Poem will be read aloud with souvenir bookmarks available. Reception to follow so the poets and audience can mingle and celebrate poetry. Email the Library at events@mclvt.org to reserve your opportunity to share your 2-3 minute poem.

All Library poetry activities are free and open to the public. Manchester Community Library is located at 138 Cemetery Ave. in Manchester Center, VT. For more info, contact the Library at 802-362-2607.
