Calder named to District Band

MANCHESTER - Emily Calder of Arlington, and a sixth grade flutist at Maple Street School, was chosen for the Green Mountain District Middle School Concert Band. Students from all over the southwest quarter of Vermont auditioned in November and 16 flutes in grades 6-8 were chosen. Calder is very excited to be participating in the festival, which includes a full day of rehearsals and an evening concert.

"I am so proud of Emily," said Maple Street School music teacher Erin Villamizar "The audition is challenging especially for a 6th grader who has only been playing flute for two years and not many are accepted. Emily puts a lot of time into practicing at home, comes in for extra lessons after school, and really takes ownership of her learning."

The band festival will be held on Friday, March 8, at The College of St. Joseph in Rutland, VT.

Maple Street School is an independent day school serving children in grades Kindergarten through eighth grade.
