Burr and Burton announces two new trustees

MANCHESTER >> Seth Bongartz '72, Chair of the Burr and Burton Academy Board of Trustees, has announced that Peggy Brockett '88, past BBA Parent Association President, and Bill Cairns '72, currently President of Bromley Resort, in Peru, Vt have been selected to serve on the Board.

Ms. Brockett is a 1988 graduate of Burr and Burton and comes from a long line of Burr and Burton alumni, including her father Harvey Brophy '56 and mother, Dorothy Thompson Brophy '51. She and her husband, Dan, are also the parents of two recent Burr and Burton Academy graduates, Hailey Brockett '15 and Brianna Brockett '14.

Ms. Brockett said "As a parent of two Burr and Burton graduates and as an alumna myself, I feel it is a great way to give back and remain involved with the school. Burr and Burton is a pillar in our community and I hope each student realizes how fortunate he or she is to be at a school that offers them such great advantages." Peggy added, "The faculty and staff are outstanding and the sense of community along with the caring and supportive atmosphere they provide our children is amazing. Burr and Burton provides a premier education, in state of the art facilities, providing the students in our community the opportunity to achieve their dreams." She is the owner of Lily of the Valley Florist, which has been serving Manchester and the surrounding towns for over twenty years. This is a family-owned and operated business, committed to providing floral designs in the area.

When Mr. Cairns, a graduate of the class of 1972, was asked in late summer if he would be interested in joining the Board he said, "It presented an opportunity to be part of an incredible institution that has been and continues to be a centerpiece of the town and surrounding communities." He continued, "My wife and I have two children attending BBA and this has allowed me to reconnect with the school and to witness first-hand the dedication and passion of the teachers, administration, and staff. I felt honored to be asked and knowing how important these years are in the development of young people, the opportunity to be part of a Board entrusted with the present and future direction of the school was an opportunity I gladly accepted."

Ms. Brockett and Mr. Cairns join 15 other boards members. "We are deeply indebted to Peggy and Bill for taking on this responsibility," Headmaster Mark Tashjian said. " Bill and Peggy join a hard-working and thoughtful group of trustees who collectively form the foundation of Burr and Burton Academy through these exciting times for the school."
