Bulldogs blank Brattleboro
The junior goalie stopped all 19 of the shots she faced as the Burr and Burton girls ice hockey team shut out Brattleboro, 4-0, at Memorial Park, on Saturday afternoon.
"They are a tough team. They are one of the top three teams in our league," said Colonels coach Kraig LaPorte of the Bulldogs.
Dorr was untested in the first period. The defensive tandems of Ryder Ferrone-Clara Berard and Lucy Bisselle-Hannah Dingley kept the puck in the BUHS zone, allowing their front line to go to work.
Brattleboro netminder Alex Fellows denied Aggie Bisselle and Mary Leech twice each from point-blank range, but she had no chance when Jordan Harmon coasted in uncontested for a breakaway goal at the 10:22 mark.
Trailing 1-0, the Colonels tried to answer in the 2nd period. Sarah LaPorte showed off her skills by carrying the puck coast to coast and later setting up Michaela Shea-Gander for a shot, Meyru Bhanti deflected a crossing pass wide, Asha DiMatteo-Pape shook loose up the right side for an attempt, and two BUHS blasts glanced off the post.
At the other end, the Bulldogs were able to finish. Lucy Bisselle took the puck up the left side before firing a laser past Fellows, Aggie Bisselle weaved her way in front of the goal and tucked the biscuit in a narrow space between the left post and the goalie's right pad, and Leech capped the scoring with a burial off of a face off.
Sarah LaPorte continued to put on a show for the home fans over the final 15 minutes. She kept the puck in as the Colonels controlled play early in the period and also showed a burst up the left side prior to dishing to Bhanti.
"She's having a good season," said coach LaPorte of his daughter. "We're letting her loose a little more as you could see by her rushes from defense."
Late in the contest, the purple and white also got an attack by Shea-Gander and a trio of rushes from an aggressive DiMatteo-LePape.
But Dorr turned back shots again and again, eventually earning the shutout.
The 2-13 Colonels have five remaining games and need to win three of those in order to qualify for the playoffs. They will host Northfield today.
