Buchmayr to exhibit at Dorset Library

DORSET >> The featured artist at the Dorset Public Library during the month of February will be artist Katherine Buchmayer. The public is invited to meet her at an opening reception on Saturday, Feb. 6 from 11-1 p.m. Refreshments will be served. All works are for sale, with a portion of the proceeds going to benefit the library.

Buchmayr has been sketching and painting since she was a child and has taken numerous art and craft courses over the years. When she moved back to Vermont full time in 2000, she started taking painting classes at the Southern Vermont Arts Center working in acrylic and oil.

A love of Vermont and New England and a fascination with light are what inspire her paintings. The serenity of the Green Mountains, the warmth of the sunshine, coolness of shadows and reflections of light is what she seeks to capture on canvas whether it be a landscape, flowers, or still life.

Buchmayr is well-known for her Dorset landscapes and enjoys painting both farm and domestic animals. She has had solo exhibitions at the Southern Vermont Arts Center, Dorset Library, Northshire Medical Center, Equinox Village and the Village Fare and has also exhibited at the Dorset Then and Now, Spiral Press Café and the Stratton Arts Festival. In addition to her fine art paintings she also paints wooden accessories such as tissue boxes and waste baskets and does fine art and craft commissions.

The library's hours are Monday-Friday 11-5 p.m. and Saturday from 10-3 p.m. Call 802-867-5774 for more information.
