Bird walk at Hildene set for Oct. 13

MANCHESTER - The next survey of the birds at Hildene: The Lincoln Family Home in Manchester will be Saturday, Oct. 13. The walk will start at the Visitors Center at 8 a.m., not 7 a.m., and will end at the meadowlands on River Road visiting the wetlands that border the Battenkill River.

The hummingbirds have left, the warblers are few and far between, but ducks, hawks, eagles and other raptors are still here waiting to migrate. While the number of birds that will be seen on the walk may be lower than the big warbler waves we encountered in September, there is always the unexpected.

The event is free and open to the public.

Binoculars are available to borrow. The bird data collected during the Hildene surveys is entered in the international database, ebird. Contact Randy at the Vermont Bird Place & Skywatch or call 362-2270 for more information.
