Bennington Police: Largest seizure of heroin to date

BENNINGTON >> Bennington Police say that a traffic stop Wednesday netted the largest seizure of heroin the town has seen to date.

Police said that at 11:25 a.m. police conducted a traffic stop on County Street and arrested the driver, Richard Bynum, on a federal warrant. Bynum was in possession of two bundles — 20 bags — of heroin and two small bags of cocaine. Bynum told police he got the heroin from two males at the Southgate Motel on Route 7.

The males , Juan Martori, 24, and Robert Morales, 25, both of Springfield, Mass., were ultimately located at a convenience store on South Street and arrested. Between them they were found to be in possession of $5,000 in cash.

Their vehicle and room at the Southgate Motel was searched and police found 690 bags of heroin stamped with the label "Hard Times." This was the same label as the one on the bags Bynum had.

Morales and Martori are being held on $100,000 bail and are expected to be arraigned Thursday in Vermont Superior Court and face charges of sale of heroin, possession of heroin, trafficking heroin, sale of cocaine, and possession of cocaine. Bynum is also being held on the federal warrant. Police indicated he will be charged with possession of heroin.
