BBA track and field members qualify for states

MANCHESTER - In their last two meets against Springfield and Bellows Falls, the Burr and Burton Academy track and field team has been making some positive strides.

In their meet at Springfield, the girls team took third place overall. They followed that performance up by taking fourth place overall at their next meet at Bellows Falls on Monday.

Individually, there are also several members of the team who have been performing well this year. Raili Utiger has qualified for states in the Triple Jump with a distance of 27 feet 7 inches and Will Fisher has qualified in the 3,000 meter run.

The 4x400 meter girls relay team of Utiger, Ann Fisher, Lydia Maier and Emily Maier has been perform exceptionally well also. In their most recent meet at Bellows Falls on Monday the team defeated the competition by nearly 200 meters, placing them into contention for the state finals at Fairhaven.

Fisher is also showing promise in the 1,500 meter run and her coaches believe she will place at the state meet. In a 1,600 meter run at the Springfield meet, Fisher finished with a time of 6:25.76. In addition, Anders Proft is two inches away from qualifying for the states in the Triple Jump and is expected to reach the mark before the end of the season, according to assistant coach Alex Vincent.

Obrien Ellis took third place in the 100 meter dash at the Springfield meet with a time of 12:53.

Lydia Maier also jumped her best in the high jump at the Springfield meet with a height of 4 feet 6 inches. While Lydia Maier is reaching new heights, Claudia Mosher, Morgan Burns and Emily Maier are continuing to improve in the event. Emily Maier had the highest jump out of the three girls this season with 4 feet 4 inches - followed closely by Mosher whose best this season was 4 feet 2 inches - and Burns who's best jump was 4 feet.
