BBA students to travel to California
The Student Success program is part of an overall BBA effort to help first generation college-bound students work to develop a future vision for themselves, set goals, and grow confident in their academic, technological, and leadership skills. The program offers regular field experiences, trips to local colleges, job skill training, homework support, and kicked off with a Summer Success Camp for incoming freshman.
While in California, students will be visiting the the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Stanford University and the Cal Berkeley Student Food Cooperative, Alcatraz, Muir Woods, and many other sites, while exploring themes of responsibility, integrity, and service. For many scholars, this is the first trip they've taken out of state, and the experience is sure to have lasting impact.
"This initiative was put in place to ensure an equal opportunity for all scholars to strive for success and take advantage of every opportunity we have at Burr and Burton Academy," said Program Director Jason Pergament says. "This trip has been earned by students through a combination of academic achievement, regular attendance, and positive attitude. It has been amazing to watch the students developed a powerful sense of self and accomplishment as they strive to earn their spot on this great adventure."
The continued growth of this program is dependent on financial support from the community.
Burr and Burton would like to acknowledge and thank the Stratton Foundation for their substantial support through the 24 Hours at Stratton event, which was a huge success this past March.
