BBA Bulldogs volunteer for youth soccer

MANCHESTER - Manchester Youth Soccer League (MYSL) has been a feeder program for Burr and Burton Academy (BBA) for 35 years. In 2009 MYSL and BBA started a mentor program between the varsity players and the MYSL kids. Backed by varsity coaches Peter Mull and Dan Deforest, it allows high school players to give back to the MYSL some of the volunteerism they received during their K-6 years.

The program has near 100 percent participation from the boys and girls varsity teams. The MYSL coaches appreciate the help and the kids love their big brothers and sisters. This year the 4th - 6th grade girls were invited to a varsity girls match against Mill River on Sept. 30 and likewise the 4th - 6th grade boys attended a varsity boys match against Springfield on Oct. 18. The kids wore their uniforms; had their pictures taken with their BBA heroes; and became the halftime soccer entertainment under the lights on Applejack field.
