Batten Kill Valley Runners to host Running of the Turkeys

ARLINGTON - The 17th annual Running of the Turkeys, a 5K road race, 5K walk, and 1K Kids Fun Run, organized each year by the Batten Kill Valley Runners Club, will be held Thursday, Nov. 22, Thanksgiving Day. The 5K road race and walk starts at 9 a.m.

The Running of the Turkeys begins and ends at Fisher Elementary School, on the East Arlington Road. Online registration is available at and the entry form is available at

Both online and postmarked mailed discounted entries end on Nov. 16. The Kids' Fun Run is $1 with awards for all finishers. The last day to pick up a packet and register at the $15 early bird entry rate or a $40 family package for four members of the same family will be on Wednesday, Nov. 21 from 5- 7 p.m. at the Arlington Community House on route 7A.

Race day registration is $20 for all, families at $50, at Fisher Elementary, beginning at 7:45 a.m. and ending at 8:30 a.m. The 5K race is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. in front of the school. Runners' Turkeywear will be given to the first 400 to register; awards will be in five-year age groups; and there will be two raffles. Those that bring cookies/bars/brownies for post-race refreshments will be entered to win Battenkill Valley Runner apparel. Those that bring shoes, sneakers, and sandals in all sizes and condition will be entered in a drawing for a 2013 Battenkill Canoe day pass valued at $70.
