Artist talk set for SVAC
Sunday's featured speaker is Mara Williams, Chief Curator of the Brattleboro Museum and Art Center.
Her talk will focus on the theme: Making Meaning: Exploring the Aesthetic Experience. Williams will examine the conversation a viewer strikes up with a piece of art, posing questions such as "What's the flow of the experience? What's the pleasure or discomfort? What do we feel; what do we think? How do we make meaning when we're alone or with others?"
The public is encouraged to join Ms. Williams in this discussion of the aesthetic experience, including time in front of works on display at SVAC. Over the past decade, Mara Williams has built the Brattleboro Museum & Art Center into a progressive, audience-friendly, non-collecting institution with the mission of "exploring the art of our time." She has served as chair of the Vermont Arts Council board and as board member of the New England Museum Association.
The series of artist talks will continue on Sept. 8 with Ed Smith, Professor of Art and Gallery Director at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
