Arlington boys cruise past Rebels


ARLINGTON >> The Arlington Memorial High School boys basketball team used a hot-shooting night and the overall play of sophomore Keyshawn King to score a 63-51 victory.

The Eagles hit seven 3-pointers, many at critical points as they improved to 6-1 on the season.

King was the leading scorer with 16 points, a team and career-high, but also made a big difference on the defensive end with seven rebounds and three steals.

Arlington travels to face New York Class D opponent Fort Edward on January 11.

Arlington edges Devils

POULTNEY >> The Arlington Memorial High School survived a scare from Poultney on Saturday, beating the Blue Devils, 78-76, in overtime.

Nathan Mattison and Jared Lacoste had a team-high 17 points each to lead Arlington to its fourth straight victory. Brandon Gamble added 16 as well.

Poultney was led by Bobbie Brill's game-high 21 points. Jackson Wagner and Nathan Mackey added 17 and 14 for the 0-5 Blue Devils.

Arlington hosts Leland & Gray on Wednesday.

Rice edges BBA

MANCHESTER >> The Burr and Burton Academy girls basketball team led Rice after three quarters, but the Knights outscored BBA 14-7 in the fourth to win 57-50 on Saturday.

The Bulldogs had three players in double figures — Tessa Roberts and Hannah Nicholson led with 13 points each and Emily Bleakie added 12. Rice's Lisa Sulejmani scored 15 to lead all scorers. Jordan Lawrence chipped in 13 and 10 from Rachel Chicoine.

Rice is 5-2 on the season. BBA travels to Otter Valley tonight.
