Applications being taken for subscription program
For $105, the subscription fee covers all emergency medical costs of an entire household for one year. Coverage begins on Aug. 1 and continues through July 31, 2015.
"Our subscription is more than an EMS insurance program," said Mike Casey, Chief Operating Officer of the Rescue Squad. "Its also our grassroots community fundraiser. We rely on money from subscriptions to be able to serve everyone in the community."
The Manchester Rescue Squad is an independent, non-profit organization that serves the towns of Manchester, Dorset, Danby, Mt. Tabor and portions of Winhall. The squad provides emergency medical services, including basic and advanced life support year round, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The professional and volunteer staff of paramedics and EMT's makes over 1,200 emergency calls per year.
"Its important that everyone knows we are not a municipal organization," said Ben Weiss, president of the Rescue Squad board of trustees. "Less than 5 percent of our budget comes from the five towns we serve.
The squad is funded primarily by billing for medical services, but relies on charitable donations and revenue from the subscription program to achieve a balanced budget.
As a member of the subscription program, all emergency medical costs from the Rescue Squad will be covered, including any insurance deductibles and co-pays. Subscribers also qualify for limited local non-emergency transportation, if deemed necessary by a doctor.
A subscription brochure is being mailed to everyone in the coverage area, including an enrollment form. Subscriptions can also be purchased on the squad's website - www.manchesterrescuesquad.org.
