Aborn awarded Scieszka Scholarship

MANCHESTER - Simon Aborn of Manchester received the 2014 James G. Scieszka Memorial Scholarship Award, which was presented on Monday, June 9, at Burr and Burton Academy's Scholarship Awards Program.

For four years, Aborn was a member of the school's Cross Country Team and served as captain his senior year. He also served as captain of the school's Scholars Bowl Team, as a Freshman Mentor, and as a Co-Leader on the Advisory Board.

Aborn consistently earned honor roll status and was a member of the National Honor Society. He served on the school's Student Council and was a member of the BBA Chorus. For four years, he was selected to be a member of the All-State Chorus.

The son of Melissa Michaud and the late Scott Aborn of Manchester, Aborn spent 11 months in Uruguay on a Youth for Understanding exchange program, and will be majoring in international relations at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa.

This memorial scholarship award is presented annually in memory of Jim Scieszka, a BBA freshman who was killed in 1986. It is awarded to a graduating senior who has excelled in academics and athletics, and who displays qualities of leadership and commitment to tasks.
