Julia Lacoste scored both goals for the Eagles, who got assists from Molly Elwell and Tasha Groton.
Lacoste's first goal came 20 minutes in and after MSJ tied it, Lacoste scored the eventual winner with 10 minutes left in the first half.
Hannah Andrew had six saves and coach Dan Wood cited the midfield play of Haley Davis, Becca Solari and Brooke Hawley as solid to keep MSJ out of the net.
Arlington is 1-0 and faces Bellows Falls in the home opener on Thursday.
Host Rutland sweeps XC meet
RUTLAND - Mount Anthony and Burr and Burton cross-country competed at the Rutland race on Tuesday afternoon, but the host Raiders swept both events.
On the boys side, Rutland won with 26, while BBA was second with 47, MAU third with 71 and Fair Haven fourth at 99.
On the girls side, the Raiders scored 24, while BBA (50) and MAU (55) were second and third.
For the boys, Andy Barlow was the top scorer for MAU, finishing second in 19 minutes, 34 seconds. The other scorers were freshman Shawn Tobin in 22:45, freshman Austin Spencer in 23:10, Luke Lapean in 23:29 and Ben Prandini in 23:44.
BBA had all five of its scorers in the top 20, with Anders Proft in 4th in 20:20, Will Fisher 7th (20:28), Scott Mooney 9th (21:24), Eric Owens 14th (22:25) and Sam Silsby 18th (22:58).
For the girls, MAU's Emalene Gabriel, Asuka Kosaki and Paige Greenawalt were 6th, 8th and 9th, respectively, while Cyonn Alexander and Katianna Nardone finished the scoring.
BBA's Emily Williams was second overall in a time of 24:37, while Tessa Roberts (7th), Ann Fisher (10th), Raili Utiger (16th) and Lydia Maier (17th) rounded out the scoring for the Bulldogs.
Bulldogs route Lyndon Institute
LYNDONVILLE - The Burr and Burton Academy football team rolled to a 35-0 lead at the half en route to a 54-6 rout over Lyndon Institute last Saturday afternoon in a Division II matchup.
Sophomore signal-caller Griff Stalcup combined for six touchdowns, throwing for five scores and rushing for another. Wilson Vickers had two touchdown catches - a 4-yarder and a 6-yarder.
Will Tucker and Sean Apps caught touchdown throws from Stalcup as BBA starts 1-0 on the season.
Bulldogs blanked in season opener
WINDSOR - The Burr and Burton Academy field hockey team started the season on the short end of a 2-0 loss to Windsor.
Ashley Creighton scored for Windsor, assisted by Ash Wilcox, one minute into the second half. Haley Wood gave them some insurance with 11 minutes left.
Cubby Arvin-DiBlasio and Molly Dingley combined to make 11 saves for the Bulldogs (0-1).
Coach Julie Fifield cited defenders Quinn Murphy and Emily Sullivan, along with midfielder Erin Cairns with solid play on Saturday.
