MANCHESTER - The Monday night women's ice hockey league in Manchester saw Vermont Country Store best Merchants Bank 6-1.

Scoring started early for VCS, when Margi Putney assisted Jessica Grabher for the first goal of the night. With 2 minutes left in the first period, VCS's Els Van Woert found the back of the net and Putney squeeked one in with just 10 seconds left on the clock.

Grabher also started the second period scoring for VCS with the help of Barbara Price. Later, with only a few minutes left in the second, a scramble in front of the net yielded Merchant's Bank their only goal of the night. In this play, goalie Chrystal Cleary made several great saves before Marilyn Hand was able to roll the puck over Cleary's shoulder for the goal.

Assists on that play came from Carisa Warren and Rebecca Allen. The second period finished with VCS's Wendy Hull scoring off an assist from Grabher.

During the third, only Van Woert found net beating goalie Tiffany Clark on a quick breakaway shot.

Women's league play continues on Monday nights at Riley Rink at Hunter Park, and is open to all women.
