MANCHESTER - The first night of women's ice hockey action at Riley Rink saw the two league teams finish with a 2-2 tie.

First period play got off to a slow start with both teams going back and forth.

Scoring started 10 minutes in by Merchant's Bank's Carisa Warren with an assist by Cathy Aragi. Rebecca Allen, recovering from a serious elbow injury, had no trouble finding net on a breakaway from center ice to make it 2-0 at the end of the second period.

Vermont Country Store's team finally came alive in the third period. A quick breakaway by Els VanWoert brought the score to 2-1. Then, with only five minutes remaining, winger Kim Murphy sent a searing pass to center Wendy Hull for the tying goal.

Women's hockey continues on Monday nights through February and all levels of play are welcome.

The league teams this year are sponsored by Merchant's Bank and the Vermont Country Store, and is organized by Rusty Blades Women's Hockey.
