MANCHESTER - The Burr and Burton Academy boys and girls cross country teams both took second place in the BBA Invitational on Tuesday.

With the Marble Valley League Championship coming up next Tuesday and the State Championship set for the following Saturday, Oct. 26, BBA coach Sandy Birch was pleased with the outcome of Tuesday's meet.

"The standings were fantastic for all teams, and our team especially," said Birch. "We're looking good going on into states."

BBA's Lauren Miskovsky continued her stellar season, finishing first overall among Marble Valley League runners with a time of 24:05. Anne Fischer and Isabelle Abs were the second and third finishers for BBA - placing third and eighth overall, respectively.

Fischer finished with a time of 24:43 and Abs crossed the line in 26:26. BBA's Amanda Mulroy took 14th with a time of 29:38.

Mount Anthony Union High School had five runners finish in the top 10. Erika Hale was MAU's first place finisher taking fifth place with a time of 24:25. She was followed closely by Kinsey Boudreau, Emily Smith, Abby Malmborge and Asuka Kosaki who finished seventh, eighth, ninth, and 10th respectively. Boudreau, Smith, and Malmborge all crossed the finish line within a span of 35 seconds, finishing with times of 24:52, 25:20, and 25:27. Kosaki was not far behind, finishing with a time of 25:59.

Lina Bergammini was the top runner for Long Trail School, finishing in 17th place with a time of 30:18.

On the boys side, BBA's Thomoas Kittross placed third overall with a time of 20:30.

"My time was exactly what I wanted and I had a good race," said Kittross. "The team did very well, and we got way less points than usual."

The boys team finished with 38 team points - second to Mount Anthony Union High School who took first place in the meet with 21.

The Bulldogs also had two other top 10 finishers in Simon Aborn who finished fourth with a time of 20:50 and Sam Silsby who took eighth with a time of 22:17. Two other Burr and Burton runners Will Fischer and Eric Owens, finished in the top 15 - finishing 11th and 12th, respectively with times of 22:42 and 22:52.

MAU's Will Buckley took first overall with a time of 19:57. Buckley was one of three MAU runners to place in the top five along with Andy Barlow who came in second with a time of 20:12 and Anthony Seward who placed fifth, crossing the finish line in 21:09.

MAU's Matt Strano and Caleb Nole were not far behind, finishing sixth and seventh respectively with times of 21:46 and 22:15.

The top three runners for the Long Trail School boys cross country team were Antonio Quevedo who finished 20th with a time of 27:13, Kit Lefevre who took 28th with a time of 30:45 and Garrett Hastings who finished in 29th with a time of 32:13.

The BBA cross country team will compete in the Marble Valley League Championship on Tuesday, Oct. 15, in Brattleboro. The meet begins at 3:30 p.m.

BBA, MAU, LTS, Arlington Memorial High School, and Stratton Mountain School all participated in the meet that took place on the Red Gate trail of Mount Equinox.
