MANCHESTER - The Rusty Blades women's hockey league finished their season with The Vermont Country Store and Team Teal skating to a 2-2 tie.

Margi Putney got the scoring started early with a blast to the net one minute into the game for Team Teal. The goalies settled in and didn't allow any other goals that period, and were helped by a lot of back and forth mid-ice action.

In the second period, Vermont Country Store got on the scoreboard when Mimi Zylinski flipped a Barbara Price rebound over the shoulder of goalie Tiffany Clark.

The score remained tied 1-1 throughout the rest of the period with some fantastic saves made by both goalies Clark and Chrystal Cleary.

In the last period, Nicole Preiser had a quick breakaway goal for VCS, putting them in the lead 2-1. With just moments left in the game, Vermont Country Store was ready to celebrate victory when Team Teal's Marilyn Hand connected, with assists by Topsy King and Amy Charbonneau to tie the score and ended VCS's lead. VCS was unable to put anything together in the last few seconds and the game finished with the tie.

Women's hockey league action will return in October at Riley Rink at Hunter Park. For more information visit rileyrink.com.
