HARTFORD - The Burr and Burton Academy boys hockey team kept their hot streak alive, winning their sixth game in a row, 2-0, on the road against Hartford.

Brock Pollard scored his 13th goal in the second period to give the Bulldogs the lead. Then Henry Buckley scored his seventh of the year in the third period for the final margin.

Senior goaltender Zack Stewart was perfect in net, making 26 saves for the now 8-3 Bulldogs.

BBA puts their six-game winning streak on the line Saturday when they travel to Milton for a 6 p.m. start.

BBA Clips Minutemen

CLARENDON - Patient on offense in the first half and producing enough plays in transition down the stretch, the Burr and Burton Academy girls basketball team trimmed Mill River, 43-37, on Tuesday night.

Playing without their two seniors, the Bulldogs (5-4) got 12 points from freshman Hannah Nicholson and 11 points from sophomore Claudia Mosher. "A lot of kids got some quality playing time tonight and stepped up to the challenge," BBA coach Terry Merrow said.

BBA led by three after the first quarter and 26-20 at the break. Nicole Aines led Mill River (4-6) with 15 points while Trish Burden was held to seven thanks to the defense of Olson Humphrey, Merrow said.

Eagles comeback falls short

POULTNEY - The Arlington Memorial High School boys basketball team got themselves into a 16-0 hole in the first five minutes against Poultney and couldn't come all the way back in a 61-49 loss on Monday night.

The Eagles (4-5) got as close as five in the fourth quarter, but two back-to-back baskets by the Blue Devils stopped the comeback.

Sam White had 23 points and 18 rebounds to lead Poultney. Alex Trayah was the high scorer for the Eagles with 13. Olden Dwyer added 11.

Brown's basket, steal save BBA

MANCHESTER - Devin Brown's shot with 32 seconds left gave Burr and Burton Academy the lead and her steal with 7 seconds left iced the one-point victory as the Bulldogs edged Otter Valley, 37-36, in girls basketball on Thursday, Jan. 17.

Up one, 19-18, at halftime, Burr and Burton (4-4) fell behind by nine in the third quarter as the Otters raced out on a 10-0 run. BBA chipped away to grab the lead, 29-28, on a basket by Hailey Brockett at the end of the period.

"We had some moments," BBA coach Terry Merrow said.

Freshman center Hannah Nich olson paced the Bulldogs with 10 points while senior guard Rory Halligan added seven.

Amy Jones and Jessica Frazier led Otter Valley with eight points apiece.

BBA travels to face Mill River on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Eagles knock off Rebels

ARLINGTON - Arlington Memorial High School overcame a sub-par shooting night with solid ball-control to earn a 37-31 win against Leland & Gray in girls basketball on Jan. 17.

The Eagles (3-5) led 18-16 at the break.

Sophomore guard Molly Elwell led the way with 15 points, while Julia Lacoste added 10 points and eight rebounds. Rayleen Sherman chipped in with eight points and 10 rebounds.
