WOODSTOCK - Three members of the Burr and Burton Academy girls alpine ski team finished in the top five during Tuesday's slalom event at Suicide Six helping earn the team a narrow 20 to 24 victory over second place finisher Woodstock.

Sanderson Kemp finished No. 2 overall with a combined time of 1:02.74. Kate Bourque and Olivia Burwell - fourth and fifth, respectively - were not far behind finishing with combined times of 1:03.47 and 1:03.80, respectively.

Rutland, the only other team competing in the race, finished with a team score of 44.

The boys also took the top spot on the day, defeating second place finisher Rutland 20 to 28. Woodstock - the third team competing in the meet - finished with a team score of 30.

BBA's Tanner McGrath and Andrew Sherras finished first and second overall with combined times of 55.11 and 55.85, respectively. Burr and Burton's Skylar Clark and Scott Trudel also had a good day. Clark finished sixth overall with a combined time of 59.21 and Trudel finished 11th with a combined time of 1:03.12.

For both teams, coach Pete McNealus said the training the students have had was the decisive factor in Tuesday's win.

"For both of them they've been training really well, both boys and girls," McNealus said. "They've had really great training from Bromley. From great coaching from the Bromley Outing Club Staff. They were prepared going into the race and at the moment they skied very well."

The alpine ski team will have their next race - a giant slalom - on Friday, Jan. 18, at Bromley beginning at 1 p.m.
