MANCHESTER - The first Monday night game of the 2012-2013 season of women's hockey at Riley Rink saw a 12-2 Vermont Country Store trouncing of the Merchant's Bank team.

During the first three minutes of play, VCS's Christine Miles scored, followed quickly by Amy Charbonneau's twin goals. Rounding out the period, Melanie Zylinski also scored two goals for Vermont Country Store, with assists from Rebecca Allen.

The second period play was more settled, with only Allen scoring her first goal of the night for VCS.

The third period saw more action from Vermont Country Store's Charbonneau, as she finished her evening's hat trick. Then VCS's Barbara Price had a searing slap shot goal from the blue line and Allen - a league newcomer - scored three more goals for a total of four on the evening with two assists.

The play of the evening was a header off Vermont Country Store's Amy Bryan that then went rolling over goalie Tiffany Clark's helmet for the goal. Merchant's Bank finally tallied with a breakaway goal by Barbara Miceli, followed shortly after by one from newcomer Wendy Hull.

The women's league, run by the Rusty Blades Women's Hockey, is open to all skill levels. Action begins every Monday night at 7:15 pm at Riley Rink at Hunter Park.
