SVC falls to 2-3 in the conference (8-4-1 overall), while Becker improves to 4-1 against NECC opponents (6-5-2 overall). The match was played evenly throughout the first half with both teams taking nine shots. Southern Vermont had chances in the box, including an opportunity within six yards of the goal that was nullified by a foul call. Becker was also able to progressively work the ball to get quality looks at the goal, but SVC freshman keeper Liz Simonowicz (Chester, Mass. ) stopped all five shots on goal to keep the game scoreless going into the break.
After the intermission, the Mountaineers applied quick pressure, having their best chances of the half in the early going. Hawk sophomore goalkeeper Kaitlyn Rose (North Attleboro, Mass.) was able to deny the two SVC shots to keep the Mountaineers off the board. Rose finished the day with six saves for the shutout victory, while Simonowicz totaled 12 on the day.
Seventy-five scoreless minutes elapsed before Becker broke through to go ahead, playing with only 10 women after an issued red card. Plunkett was able to maneuver around and past the SVC defense, placing a shot to the far left and outstretched arms of a diving Simonowicz for the 1-0 advantage.
Prior to the match, the Mountaineers honored Shawnee Webster (Hoosick, N. Y.), the lone senior on the team, as part of the team's Senior Day. Webster was hard-pressed to break free from a blanketing Hawk defense, being only able to register one shot on the day. However, the captain made a defensive presence, stopping a close-range Becker shot in the first half, keeping the game scoreless at the time.
