With 25:55 left to play in the game Springfield was awarded a penalty shot after BBA goalie Cassie Bowen stepped on the ball.
Rushton took aim and flicked the ball into the upper left corner of the goal to put Springfield on top 1-0.
Burr and Burton started the game off strong, putting four shots on goal to Springfield's zero and winning three corners to Springfield's two.
"I thought we played a really strong first half, really strong," said BBA Head Coach Barbara Muench. "I don't think they even had a shot on our goalie the first half. So we dominated the field in the first half and the girls were really feeling it. In the second half, even when they seemed to get tired legs they were able t o keep that ball out of the cage. Their focus was really defensively minded in the second half and they stuck to it. The one goal we had was just unfortunate. The girl had an amazing penalty stroke."
Springfield came out strong in the second half, dominating the field and winning corner after corner - eight in the second half - after the taking the 1-0 lead.
"We tend to be a second half team, so it takes us a while to warm up," said Springfield Head Coach Lauren Wallace "We also have some young ladies playing positions that they normally haven't. We've had a lot of illnesses and injuries this season. So, we've got people subbing in and doing the best they can, so I was proud of them that second half they dominated because I knew they could do that"
Bowen was able to keep the Bulldogs in the game though, tallying four saves in the second half and keeping the Senators off the board after the goal.
Although she acknowledged that the team still has some work to do - having a young squad with just three seniors - Muench said she liked some of the things she saw out of her team during Monday's game.
"They are doing a better job of talking and working together and moving the ball and making changes when they have to make changes," said Muench. "I'm proud of the way we played."
Springfield's goalie tallied four saves on the day as well.
BBA plays their next game at Bellows Falls on Monday, Oct. 8 at 4 p.m.
