The Tritons tallied s total of nine medals at the State Championships - four gold, two silver, and three bronze - and also set six Triton Swim Team records in the process.
"I had a fantastic time coaching. I think my swimmers did great throughout the entire year," said first year head coach of the Triton Swim Team Alex Ramsvig. "So, I knew there would be some awesome times and some great performances. My goal wasn't to win the division in State's. It was to have everyone swim as best as they possibly could."
Sarah Asciutto set three team records in the 25-yard Fly, 50-yard Freestyle
Asciutto also took home four medals from States - a gold for the 50-yard Freestyle, silver for the 25-yard Fly, and bronze medals for the 100-yard Freestyle and 100-yard Individual Medley.
Asciutto's father, Sal, only had the opportunity to attend one of her races during the State Championships, but he said he monitored her progress on the second day on Swim Meet Mobile. It was in this way that Sal Asciutto said he learned she had won three more medals.
"I was so happy for her because she does work hard and she was rewarded for all her hard work," he said.
Sarah Asciutto wasn't the only Triton member setting records
For the men, Alex Farley set two team records at the State Championships for the 13-14 age group. Farley took first place in the 50-yard Freestyle with a time of 24.74 and although he came in fifth in the 100-yard Freestyle, he broke a Triton record with a time of 56.55.
In addition to their success at State's, the team also performed well throughout the season with Asciutto, Iannuzzi and Farley all breaking Triton records earlier in the year. Asciutto broke a Triton record on July 24 in a meet against Springfield in the 100-yard Individual Medley with a time of 1:24.67. Four days later at Districts, Asciutto set another Triton record in the 50-yard Freestyle for the 9-10 age group with a time of 31.34. She eventually went on to break both times at the State Championships.
Iannuzzi also set a club record earlier in the year in the meet against Springfield in the 500-yard Freestyle for the Women 10 and under age group with a time of 7:31.95.
As for the Men, Farley set two club records at Districts for the 13-14 age group in the 50-yard Freestyle and the 100-yard Freestyle with times of 24.93 and 57.64 respectively.
Going forward, Ramsvig said there were a couple of things that would have to be done to build on the club's success.
"I'd like to see more senior swimmers coming back. This was my first year coaching, but I guess we lost quite a bit of the grade 12 students," Ramsvig said. "Hopefully a lot of the kids in grades 10 and 11 will stick with it for next year. Then also just new swimmers, as many as we can get. Hopefully the success will encourage the club to keep growing."
Asciutto was one of the swimmers who received the Dennis Marchetti Award - a coach's award for swimmers who performed well and had a great attitude - along with Mikayla Lathop. Asciutto received the award for the 10 and under age group and Lathrop fro the over 10 age group. Paton Marion was named rookie of the year.
The Triton Swim Team begins with the eight and under age group and swimmers can compete until the age of 19.
