When police arrived, they found the 2000 Kia Sephia down an embankment off the southbound side of the road. Through their investigation, police said they learned the accident happened after the vehicle's operator, LeEssa L. Brown, 22, of Pownal, attempted to check on her child in the back seat.
Police said Brown lost control of the vehicle, going off the southbound shoulder where it "rolled down an embankment before coming to rest on all four tires." The vehicle was totaled.
Brown and her one-year-old child, Zoeriah Clinton, were transported to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center with minor, non-life-threatening injuries.
Another occupant, 22-year-old Joshua Clinton of Pownal, was airlifted to Albany Medical Center with significant injuries to his head and torso area, police said. On Sunday afternoon, police reported Joshua Clinton in stable condition.
