MANCHESTER- The town's Development Review board will be reviewing an appeal of a permit issued for an 80 room hotel at its next regular meeting on Oct. 16.
The appeal was filed by Carol duPont, a nearby resident to the proposed site of the hotel, which would include a spa and restaurant. The proposed hotel complex, if constructed, would be built on commercially zoned property off of Route 7A on the northside of town near the Town Hall.
duPont declined to comment on the reasons for her appeal of the permit.
The written appeal filed with the town on Sept. 19, states that the application of the building issued Aug. 24 is not in accord with the policies, purposes, or terms of the plan or bylaws of the Town of Manchester.
Robert Jones, the project manager for the hotel, said he was ready for something like this to happen and was not surprised when it did. "This is just something that just has to be dealt with and take the normal legal proceedings," said Jones. "The next step is to wait to hear back from the [District Environmental Court] and go from there."
The Development Review Board approved the application to construct the combined hotel, spa and restaurant on Aug. 24 in a unanimous 7-0 vote. The DRB stated that the proposal was in conformance with permitted uses of land on the site in question, and that there were no apparent "adverse impacts."
A state Act 250 permit will also be required before construction can start, but as of Wednesday, Oct. 3, Warren Foster, the District #8 environmental coordinator, said that his office had not yet received one.
