I came across some troubling information about how little of our charitable donations actually go to those in need. The following charities use outside solicitors to raise funds which appears to be the problem: "Cancer Fund of America" raised $98 million and paid $80.4 million to solicitors leaving only 0.9 percent for direct cash aid; "Kids Wish Network" raised $127. 8 million and paid $109. 8 million to solicitors leaving only 2.5 percent for direct cash aid; "American Breast Cancer Foundation" raised $80.8 million and paid $59.8 million to solicitors leaving only 5.3 percent for direct cash aid;
Firefighters Charitable Foundation" raised $63.8 million and paid $54.7 million to solicitors leaving only 8. 4 percent for direct cash aid.
Before making a donation to a charity, we all should do a little research to find out what the net amount will go to the needy. The above data was gleaned from an investigation performed by CNN, The Tampa Bay Times and the Center for Investigative Reporting, titled "America's Worst Charities,"
