We are residents of Manchester who have the honor of serving as trustees for your Manchester Community Library. On March 1, we urge Manchester voters to go to the polls (Australian ballot) to support the library's request.

This year the library is seeking $207,000, a five percent increase from last year's request. We have worked assiduously to hold the line on our increase as we understand the many compelling needs seeking funding from the Manchester voter. We strongly believe that the library is one of the best investments we make in our town for today and for our future and urge you to vote "yes."

You may recall that our new library was built entirely with privately raised funds. While the majority of our operating budget is funded through a combination of generous donations, membership fees and other income streams from library services, we still very much rely on the Manchester voter to support our funding request at the ballot. Even though we are doing so much more in the new library, our request this year is for only 39 percent of our operating budget, down from 42 percent of last year's. We are able to do all that what we do at the library because of your support.

Our new library is transformative for Manchester. The exponential increase in demand for library services leaves us in awe. Your library had 1,330 brand new members join in its first year. Book circulation soared to nearly 20,0000. Almost 2,000 DVDs were borrowed. We have put 13 state-of-the-art computers for public use on the fastest wi-fi network in town. Not to mention over 50 community groups have used a space in the new library.

Our old building was a challenge for people with ability issues. We are delighted that our new building is completely accessible and in compliance with the Americans with Disability Act, including an elevator making both floors accessible.

Because of your support of the library's funding, every Manchester resident is able to take advantage of all of the great resources the library offers without any additional charge. Not only is the library a wonderful institution, we hope that you will agree with us that it is a great deal.

We appreciate the confidence when we hear from library supporters "Of course you will get this allocation."

This confidence needs to translate into reality. If you know or think you might be unavailable to go to the polls on March 1, please vote by absentee ballot (forms are available at the library) or visit the Town Clerk's office in Town Hall to cast your vote. Each and every vote matters.

If you value your library, as we hope you do, please do everything that you can to ensure that your "yes" vote for the library is registered on Election Day. Your support and the support of the entire community will allow the Manchester Community Library to thrive this year and well into the future.
