According to the Vermont State Police, on Saturday, July 5, at approximately 4:15 p.m. hours, troopers responded to a reported car theft from within the driveway of residence 1174 North Main Street, in Danby. While the state police were en route, the accused, Timothy Gabriel, had crashed the stolen Subaru on John Corey Road in Danby and fled where he stole a Chevy Cruz from within the driveway of residence 152 Brook Road, also in Danby.
As state police examined the two scenes and spoke with witnesses, the stolen Chevy Cruz was spotted on US Route 7 in Shaftsbury, by a member of the Bennington County Sheriff's Department who in turn conducted a motor vehicle stop and ultimately identified Gabriel. During the road side investigation, Gabriel provided a preliminary breath sample of .202 blood alcohol content and was subsequently placed under arrest for driving under the influence.
During the course of investigation, it was also revealed that Gabriel was wanted for other crimes in Vermont.
Gabriel was ultimately charged with two counts of grand larceny for the two stolen cars, leaving the scene of a crash, driving under the influence, and arrested on two warrants. He was subsequently lodged at Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility with no bail set for the warrants and $10,000 bail set for the grand larceny, LSA, and DUI.
