Principal Brooke DeBonis gave the following background with regard to hosting the giant map of Vermont, "I was eager to get the VT map in our school based on our positive experience with the giant map of South America. I contacted Mary Cassarino from the Vermont Geographic Alliance and created a schedule so the map could travel to all of the schools in the Bennington-Rutland Supervisory Union. We were so fortunate to have the opportunity to have the giant map of Vermont for two days.
The students in Preschool through sixth grade had a chance to explore the map."
DeBonis said that the map came with a variety of hands-on, and feet-on, activities to explore the geography of Vermont in a whole new way.
"The map was 18' by 24', and included towns, villages, counties, highways, rivers, and lakes," said DeBonis, "It also traveled with a duffel bag full of lesson ideas and props. It was beneficial for students to learn from this engaging geography lesson!"
