DORSET - On Saturday, Feb. 2, four Long Trail School middle school students competed in a Mathcounts competition at Castleton State College. In the end, they placed third as a team and had several individual accomplishments as well. Eighth grader Evan Crumb and seventh grader Evan Schmidt had the second and third overall scores respectively--and likely qualified for the state competition. They and seventh grader Kianan Rainwalker competed in the countdown round. Kianan came in fourth in the 6/7 Grade Round which involved the top 12 students. Evan Crumb and Evan Schmidt were in the eighth grade countdown of the top 12, and Evan Crumb ended this round in third place.
Though Evan Schmidt is a seventh grader, he scored so well that he competed with the older group. Eighth grader and team captain Brennan Murphy deftly handled his job of organizing the squad.
