MANCHESTER - Equinox Village, a local independent-living retirement community; Prospect Rehabilitation; and Chris Uchida have joined forces to provide new and unique exercise class options for the Northshire community.

"There are many excellent exercise class options available in the Northshire," said John M. DiBlasio, DPT, CSCS, and doctor of physical therapy, who has owned and operated Prospect Rehabilitation and Cornerstone Fitness Clinic since 2000. "However, these classes are unique in that they can be tailored to each participant's unique needs. They are similar to an individualized exercise session, but with the fun and energy of a group class."

The classes - Get Going and Get Active - were originally developed by Chris Uchida, personal trainer, past professional dancer, and licensed physical therapy assistant. Uchida has recently joined the staff at Prospect Rehabilitation, an outpatient physical therapy facility in Manchester Center, Vt.

Both Uchida and DiBlasio saw the need for a comprehensive, safe, and fun exercise class tailored for individuals that may have conditions, injuries or a lack of experience that would prevent them from participating in a more mainstream exercise class. These classes will include all areas of fitness: aerobic, strength, flexibility, and balance.

Kylee Ryan, activities director at Equinox Village, invited Uchida to use the community's exercise space to launch the class.

Equinox Village for whom this class will be perfect," Ryan said. "Knowing that the class is being endorsed by John DiBlasio gives me assurance that it will be a high quality offering."

The "Get Going" class begins Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 9 a.m.

This class is designed for people who have difficulty standing and most of the class will be taught from the seated position. This would be considered a lower level class compared to the "Get Active" class.

"Get Active" begins on Oct. 23 at 10 a.m. It is intended for those that can stand for an extended period.

Both the "Get Going" and "Get Active" classes are approximately 45 minutes long. The classes will continue to be offered at 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. every Tuesday at Equinox Village. The cost of the class is $15 per class for the general public, $10 per class for Cornerstone Fitness Clinic members, and free for Equinox Village residents.

Equinox Village is located at 49 Maple Street, Manchester Center.

It is behind Shaw's supermarket and adjacent to Equinox Terrace and Maple Street School. Please call Kylee Ryan with any questions at 362-4061.
