Vermont American Legion in the wrong
It would be a sad day when a jury found someone "not guilty" and sent them to prison anyway. Unfortunately, that is how it works in the American Legion, at least in the Department of Vermont.
It starts with total incompetence at the level of Post Commander, who was voted out of office by the Membership for "no confidence" as the Commander refused to follow rules and bylaws. It continues with total incompetence at Department Commander and Adjutant levels, who did not follow the American Legion bylaws. Also, the Department of Vermont Internal Affairs, who made up the rules as they proceeded and did little or no investigation, having nothing to start with and found nothing at the end of their investigation. Yet they imposed ridiculous sanctions that could finish off Post #69.
The American Legion is a worldwide veterans organization. We went in the military to serve our country and each other. Some of us went to war to fight against Communism, terrorism, and brutal dictatorships. Yet it exists right here in the Department of Vermont, and these few who have left a permanent black mark on the American Legion. The American Legion wonders why they cannot retain members, or recruit new?
If an investigation were launched on this department, you can bet there would be some sanctions imposed, and it could be and should be done by the rules.
