To The Editor:
Jack Stannard has served our community for many years. He was on the Dorset Select Board for 12 years, serving a stint as chairman. He served, also, on the School Board for nine years. He was on the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Board, and he was president of the Vermont Federation of Sportsmen. Jack has a deep and abiding love of wildlife and the natural landscape, and he is a committed conservationist. Nobody locally has more knowledge about our natural resources.
Those who are concerned about our natural environment, our most valuable physical resource, should know that the Dorset Planning Commission is proposing to open up to development 20 percent to 30 percent slopes. Jack will stand up against this unwarranted incursion onto our steep and fragile slopes.
Jack Stannard knows the Town of Dorset, and he understands the special character and history of this small Vermont town which he values and wishes to protect. Many communities have succumbed to the pressures of certain kinds of development, and too late in the day they have asked themselves, "What happened, how did we lose what we loved most about this place?" Jack will do what is right, and he will stand up for Dorset. Vote for John ("Jack") Stannard for the Dorset Select Board.
