To the Editor:
January marks the beginning of a new year and National Mentoring month. At The Collaborative mentor volunteers are trained and devote one hour per week during the school year to meet with youth to participate in indoor/outdoor activities such as crafts, hiking, and picnics.
Studies show that children with mentors are less likely to use drugs or alcohol, more likely to attend school, and have a higher self-esteem. Mentors at The Collaborative are dedicated to making a difference in a child's life and all those involved at The Collaborative would like our mentors to know that they are appreciated. We thank them for their time, effort, and commitment.
Did you have a mentor growing up? Be sure to thank them or give back by becoming a mentor yourself. There are children in need of mentors in your area.
