SUNDERLAND >> The Sunderland School Board has announced that Skyler LaBombard of Albany, N.Y. has been hired as the next Principal of the Sunderland Elementary School, effective July 1, 2016. Mr. LaBombard is currently a teacher at the Pownal Elementary School in Pownal. He holds a Master's Degree in Education from the College of St. Joseph, a graduate certificate in Educational Technology from Marlboro College, and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Advanced Educational Leadership from the University of New England.
"I'm honored and excited to become the next Principal at Sunderland Elementary School," he said. "I look forward to working collaboratively with staff, students, parents, and the community to ensure continued success."
Melanie Virgilio, the chairwoman of the Sunderland School Board, was very enthusiastic about Mr. LaBombard's leadership.
"The Sunderland School Board is excited about the opportunity to work with our new principal," she said. "His enthusiasm for quality education and his strong leadership skills make him the ideal fit for the Sunderland Elementary School."
LaBombard will be replacing long-serving Principal Melody Troy who will retire on June 30.
"We were fortunate to have had a leader of Mrs. Troy's caliber over the last several years," said BRSU Superintendent Dan French. "Under Mrs. Troy's leadership, the enrollment of Sunderland Elementary School has doubled, students routinely perform at the highest levels on achievement tests, and the school environment has become a modern learning facility with state-of-the-art technology. More importantly, Mrs. Troy has developed a highly capable educational team among her staff. Mr. LaBombard will be inheriting a well run organization largely due to the skill and dedication of Mrs. Troy."
