SUNDERLAND >> A 74 year-old Manchester woman was transported to the Southern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington following a head-on collision on Route 7A shortly before noon on Friday morning.
Jennie Noyes had to be extricated from her 1998 Saturn SL following the collision with a vehicle operated by Storm Sweeney, 43, also of Manchester.
According to the Vermont State Police, the 2002 Dodge Neon being operated by Sweeney travelled over the roadway's median and struck the vehicle being driven by Noyes, with serious injuries resulting. Police detected signs on impairment with regard to Sweeney, who was also transported to SVMC for evaluaton.
Sweeney was suspected of operating under the influence of alcohol and she was processed at the hospital, according to the police report. Sweeney was additionally charged with Criminal DLS and violating her conditions of release stemming from a previous DUI charge. She was released to the custody of Bennington County Probation and Parole and transported to Marble Valley Correctional facility for violating her conditions of probation. Sweeney is scheduled to appear in Bennington County Criminal Court on April 4 at 12:30 p.m.
