NORTH BENNINGTON >> At nine-years-old, there are many things to be proud of. Lily Hutcheson of North Bennington is particularly proud of getting published in Cricket magazine for her poetry.
Hutcheson won third prize for the October Cricket League poetry competition with the requirement of submitting a poem about an October night. For the February issue of Cricket, Hutcheson's poem, "Big Full Moon" will debut.
It reads: "Big full moon, high up in the sky, from my bedroom window I watch it fly. Shimmering in the silvery night, goodnight moon, big white nightlight."
"October is sort of known for having sleepy and Halloween stuff," Hutcheson said, "so I thought the full moon would be a good thing for the contest."
Hutcheson has been writing poetry for a couple of years on her own and will potentially look for other contests to submit to in the future.
"It's very exciting to be published," she said.
Cricket magazine is a children's literary publication filled with short stories, poems and articles written by children from around the world. The organization sponsors a different competition for each issue. Winners receive a certificate, recognition and publication of the work.
