BENNINGTON>> Weather forecasters envision little snow and more warm weather for the nearing holiday.
The abnormal warm trends are expected to continue throughout December and into the new year, according to an AccuWeather report.
In South Londonderry, Stratton Mountain Resort started their winter skiing and riding season on Nov. 28 and prepared five trails by making snow. They used over 250 snow guns on Nov. 22 when temperatures dropped as low as 12 degrees and produced for over 24 hours, according to a press release. To date, Stratton has three open lifts, nine open trails and 63 acres of open terrain.
Stratton also has a snow guarantee in which if a customer is not satisfied with the snow conditions, they can turn it into guest services to receive a voucher for the same type of ticket, to ride or ski for one hour, and it's valid until the end of the season.
"Based on the current trends, temps have been fairly mild and will continue through the weekend," Meteorologist Brian Montgomery of the National Weather Service in Albany said. "Every year, every pattern is different, it doesn't always match. It's very complicated."
Montgomery added that the forecast remains above normal and snowfall below normal.
On Stratton's snow and conditions report for Dec. 10, it states spring-like snow expectations and "nothing New Englanders can't handle!" For future updates about weather on the mountain, visit www.stratton.com.
While visitors may be less likely to hit the slopes for the remainder of this month, there's potential for an influx of shoppers at the outlets in Manchester.
"With the lack of snow, skiing will definitely decrease," Ian Potthast of Equinox Resort in Manchester said. "There will be more people using the outdoor outlets. The typical rush will not be the same as last year, however, on Black Friday it was a mad house."
Another regional ski spot, Bromley Mountain, in Peru, has halted operations for this week.
Ski lift workers will spin lifts at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow morning, weather permitting. According to its website, Team Snowmaggedon will blast snow at the earliest opportunity. Five out of 47 trails, and one ski lift will be up and running for the season.
While the warm weather continues to flow through the Northeast, forecasts are based on past patterns and could change for the upcoming holidays.
