BENNINGTON - What if you could save the life of someone battling leukemia, lymphoma or dozens of other blood diseases? The Stram Center for Integrative Medicine is offering community members the chance to be the cure for patients in need of a bone marrow or stem cell transplant by holding a Be the Match marrow donor drive on Wednesday, March 20, from 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. at their office at 530 Main Street in Bennington.
Every day thousands of patients who need a life-saving marrow or blood stem cell transplant are searching for a matching donor. There are more than 15 million donors worldwide who stand ready to give someone a future, yet even with a registry of millions, there are patients waiting and hoping, unable to find a match. Donation, if you match, is typically done through an automated blood donation or a minor surgical procedure done under anesthesia.
Registration is simple, requiring only paperwork and a cheek swab. No blood is taken at registration. You must be between the ages of 18 and 44, in good general health and willing to donate to any person you may match to join the registry. There is no out of pocket cost to join the Registry. This cost is covered by our sponsors, the Marrow Donor Program at Rutland Regional Medical Center and Michael's Fund of Fall River, Massachusetts. Certain medical conditions will make you ineligible to join the registry. Contact Kerry Ellis at 802-747-6267 or email@example.com with eligibility questions.
