Sticker Shock! Is done at least once every year by The Collaborative. The group of volunteers place bright colored stickers that say "Stop And Do The Right Thing. Don't Give This To Anyone Under 21. It Could Cost You Up To $2,000 and 2 Years in Prison" on 12-packs, and other cases of alcohol in Shaw's, Price Chopper, Stewart's, Discount Beverage, Kilburn's, Maplefields, Mac's, and the Short Stop.
"We appreciate all of the stores that participate because we want the message to reach as many people as possible," said Programs Coordinator, Chrissy Anderson, from The Collaborative. "According to the 2011 Youth Risk Behavior Survey, the majority of local youth get alcohol from someone they know. We want those people to know the consequences they might be facing if they are furnishing alcohol to a minor."
The Collaborative promotes the development of a healthy, involved community supporting substance free youth in a caring environment. To participate in future Sticker Shock! events or other substance-free events, visit www.thecollaborative.us.
