MANCHESTER - Stella Connors, owner of Stella's Salon Plus in Manchester, has run in races for cures before, but she explained that they take on a new perspective as a survivor.

She has organized an event called Pink Beauty Extravaganza, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15. The event, taking place in her salon, with strive to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Vermont and New Hampshire foundation.

"All of us are affected, unfortnately, on some level," Connors said, "whether it's a friend, family member, customer... so we thought what better way to help?"

Salon professionals from throughout the area will be coming to Stella's to provide an array of services, the proceeds from which will be donated to the Komen foundation.

"This is the first time I've done something like this as a community effort," said Connors. "I had sent out a letter to the beauty professionals [in the area] asking if they would like to help out."

The professionals who will be working at the event include Cindy Holton from Guy's and Dolls, Beth Montaufry from Fringes, Pam Nichols of Pam's Hair Studio, Frances Fratinio-Heberts from The Hair Retreat, and Nanci Leach Mcywayne from For the Love of Hair.

Holton and Fratinio-Heberts will be working in their own salons until 2 p.m., when they will then be joining the other stylists at Stella's.

"It's great to see all the work everyone is doing," Connors said. "It makes me want to continue to be a part of something like this."

In addition to providing services that will benefit the Komen foundation, Linda Maness will also be on-hand to assist those who are interested in signing up for their team for the race on Sept 21.

"Our team is welcome to anyone who wants to join," Connors said. "It's called Stella's Angels."

After the event is done at 4 p.m., they will continue to invite people into their salon for an "Apres Coiffe." They will be serving light snacks and beverages.

"All the hard work and effort from anyone who has helped and participated deserves to be celebrated," Connors said. "We want to celebrate joy, and love, and hope, and wellness."

The services include trio packages - shampoo, blow dry, mini facial and massage for $75 or shampoo, blow dry, manicure and makeup for $75 - duo packages - shampoo blow dry and manicure for $45 or blow dry and makeup for $45 - and single services - manicure for $20, pedicure for $40, men's haircut for $25, women's haircut for $35, shampoo and blow dry for $30, makeup application for $30, microdermabrasion hand treatment for $30, mini facial with massage for $35, or air brush makeup for $30.

They will take walk-ins for the event, but do recommend calling to schedule an appointment at 802-362-5347.

Even though the race is annual, Connors said that she is interested in looking into recreating the event unattached to the race.

"Every day that I am here is a gift," she said. "At the heart of Komen is love, and I am thankful to be a part of such a life-changing organization."
