The Eagle's managing editor since October 2005 and a top editor at other newsrooms in the Berkshires and Southern Vermont, Moran assumed his new duties on Thursday.
In this newly created position, Moran will serve as the strategic leader of all digital and print news content throughout New England Newspapers. Those news organizations include The Eagle, North Adams Transcript, Bennington Banner, Brattleboro Reformer, Advocate Weekly and Manchester Journal.
"He has the passion, commitment and digital creativity needed to move forward in today's changing media landscape," Corrado said of Moran. "He is a strong leader who has been the managing editor of The Eagle for eight years and with New England Newspapers for 20 years in a variety of editor roles."
Moran, 42, also has served as managing editor of both the North Adams Transcript and Brattleboro Reformer and as news editor for The York (Pa.) Dispatch. He began his career in 1993 as a news reporter for the Transcript, has won a variety of journalism awards, and is a past president of the New England Associated Press News Executives Association.
"Our mission in the Berkshires and Southern Vermont -- to deliver our readers the news they crave when they want it, where they want it and how they want it -- has been our franchise at each and every newsroom in New England Newspapers for decades," Moran said.
The search for a new managing editor of The Eagle is underway.
A native of Adams, Moran graduated from Hoosac Valley High School in Cheshire, Mass., in 1989 and from the University of New Hampshire in 1993 with a bachelor's degree in English. Moran and his wife, Melanie, and their 23-month-old daughter, Reese, reside in Pittsfield.
